Textile Testing Equipment: From Fiber to Garment

Contents

Quick Navigation

From raw materials to finished products, textile testing equipment ensures that every step of the textile manufacturing process meets standards for quality, durability, and safety. This article will explore the different types of textile testing equipment used throughout the manufacturing process and the benefits they provide.

#1- Abrasion Tester

An abrasion tester  is a testing device that determines the resistance of a material to wear or abrasion. This type of tester simulates the real-world wear and tear of fabric when it rubs against abrasive surfaces, such as during garment use or laundering.

The Martindale abrasion tester is a specific type of abrasion tester used specifically for testing textiles. It is named after its inventor, Dr. Fr. Martindale and is one of the most commonly used instruments in the textile industry

#2- Coefficient of Friction Tester

A Coefficient of Friction Tester is an instrument used to measure the coefficient of friction between two surfaces. Specifically, it measures the force required to move an object over a surface and helps determine how much resistance or friction is present between the two materials.

In the textile industry, this tester is designed to measure the friction between different parts of a garment or even between the garment and a wearer’s skin.

#3- Bursting Strength Tester

A Bursting Strength Tester is a device used to determine the strength and resilience of materials when subjected to pressure or tension. It measures the amount of force required to rupture the material, such as textiles, paper, cardboard, plastic films, and more.

#4- Air Permeability Tester

An air permeability tester is an equipment used to measure the amount of air that is able to pass through a fabric or other material. This measurement is often used in the textile industry to determine the breathability of fabrics, ensuring that materials meet specified standards and to identify any defects or weaknesses in the material.

#5- Perspiration Tester

Perspiration tester is an instrument used to test the resistance of a material or fabric to perspiration. It simulates the effects of exposure to human perspiration on textiles and clothing to determine how well they can withstand everyday use and wear.

#6- Formaldehyde Tester

Formaldehyde Tester is an instrument used in the textile industry to measure the amount of formaldehyde present in textiles, fabrics, and other materials. The presence of formaldehyde in clothing can cause various health issues and skin irritation, which can be severe in some cases.
Formaldehyde Tester enables textile manufacturers to monitor the formaldehyde levels in their products and ensure they comply with safety and regulatory standards.

#7- Flammability Tester

Flammability Tester is a testing machine that is designed to determine the flammability of various types of textile products. The machine works by simulating a small flame or ignition source on the textile sample and measuring the rate at which the sample ignites and how quickly the flame spreads.

#8- GSM Cutter

GSM Cutter is a tool used in textile industry to determine the weight of fabrics. It is a circular cutter with a specific size, usually 100 square centimeters, that is used to cut a sample of fabric. The weight of this sample is measured and then multiplied by a factor to determine the weight of the entire fabric per unit area, usually in grams per square meter (GSM).

#9- Fabric Thickness Tester

A fabric thickness tester is a device that measures the thickness of textiles or fabrics. It measures the distance between two parallel plates with the fabric placed between them, and then provides a reading indicating the fabric’s thickness.
