Textile Testing Instruments

This impact penetration tester is designed to assess the resistance of fabrics against water penetration under low impact conditions. It simulates real-life situations where fabrics may be exposed to heavy rain, splashing, or other forms of water impact.

The tester measures the ability of a fabric to prevent water from penetrating through its surface by subjecting it to controlled water impact and evaluating if any water passes through the fabric. This information helps evaluate the fabric’s suitability for various applications where water resistance is important, such as outdoor clothing, rain gear, or protective materials.

Working Procedure

  1. Spray a certain amount of water onto the surface of the sample with a certain tension from a height of (610±10) mm from the sample to be tested, and attach absorbent paper of known weight to the back of the sample.
  2. After spraying, weigh the mass of the absorbent paper again and calculate the amount of penetration.
  3. Clamp one end of the sample on the steel plate with a metal spring clip along the width direction.
  4. The other free end of the sample is clamped by a metal spring clip with a total mass of (0.45±0.05) kg, and the test surface of the sample is sprayed.
  5. Weigh the mass of white absorbent paper with a size of (152±10)mm×(229±10)mm, accurate to 0.1g, and insert it between the sample and the test bench.
  6. Pour (500±10)mL reagent into the funnel of the tester and start spraying the sample. During the pouring process, it is advisable to avoid vortex as much as possible.
  7. After the spraying ends (2s after the continuous spraying stops), take out the absorbent paper carefully, and quickly weigh the absorbent paper, accurate to 0.1g
